The Alfa 33 is an endless theme for miniature collecting, over its 11 seasons with Autodelta. There are well known versions, such as the 1968 33/2s or 1975 33TT12s, but also obscure ones. I think og the 33/2 Gr.7 for hillclimbs 1967, the Spiders 33/2 driven by porivateers from 1969 on or the 1969 Le Mans trial 33/3.

This latest one is actually reproduced in kit by a French marque, with an accurate rear end, very little documented.

Claudy, do you have pictures of the model and/or of the real car?

During testing, there will be two versions of the engine hood that will be tested, a short and a long one.
The Short one is a Projet 43 models and the longtail is an Original Miniature

This is the car with which Luciano Bianchi will find death...

Thank you very much, the rear view of this long tail is very interesting, and has not been published, as far as I know.

I understand that the Original Miniature model is accurate for that tail? Do you have a picture of the rear of the model?

I seem also to understand that this was the tail version that caused trouble during the test, and possibly created some aerodynamic lift? A possible cause for Bianchi's accident, if it's confirmed that he was actually driving that version at the moment of the accident?

The car was brand new and she found problems on Saturday Morning, loss of the back cover(second picture), gearbox, delicate handling etc ...
The situation improves, and Luciano can make a time but far from the Matra.
Sunday at 9am, it is the drama, braking for Mulsanne The alfa crosses the track on the left and is embedded in a pole and catches fire.
Luciano is killed on the spot ... We will never know the cause but the loss of the back cover is evoked.

Molto interessante.

The model seems accurate, nice one. Only maybe the lower edge slghtly too rounded.

Do we know positively that the car was using this long tail at the moment of the accident?

I have no certainty of the configuration of the car during the accident.
When I see the image of the crash, I would look for the short tail…

Perhaps more info in the book dedicated to the Family Bianchi ???(editions Benoit Deliège)

I'll look at the book when I see it on a shelf. Meanwhile, I have been through my period magazines, and indeed the point remains obscure.

- on the Sport Moteur cover, there is the supposed last picture of Luciano at the wheel of the 33. To me it's a short tail, because we see no fins. Now, is it really a Sunday morning picture, or(one of) the last on Saturday?

- in the reports, stories conflict about either Zeccoli or Bianchi himself having experienced the loss of the rear bonnet on Saturday. Anyway, it seems that the incident indeed caused Luciano to drive a short-tailed car on Saturday afternoon.

Then, the most comprehensive reports can be found in Autosprint: they are positive that the long tail had been refitted on Sunday and secured strongly, because mechanics were not supposed to get to the engine often in the test program. The tale of another bonnet loss was aired by a French radio, as reported. Yet the analysis of the crash may fit with the idea that aero lift would have unbalanced the car on the bump at the end of the straight, just before the crash spot.

The pictures of the wreck in Autosprint do not show anything like a body part, only mechanicals here and there (steering wheel on the ground, one wheel here, engine 50 m further, etc.).

And nowhere is there a picture showing the long tail.

Apro post in "creazioni in dettaglio"
