On the history, I can just say that if (and it probably did) the car went through Tunisia, it was mid to late 50s, as the pic I posted above was taken in Belgium around 1952. On that pic, the car is already fitted with the Ford engine as the 6C1750 was put in the other roadster to be seen alongside. That's fully documented with Belgian family records. I would think that the US soldier who bought it in Belgium was stationed in Tunisia around 1956, took the car there and then to the USA.

I would believe that, since previous owner came aware of the real story of the car from Umberto De Mola himself back in 1968, that the dark blue/red stripes livery is the correct interpretation of the original paint sheme (1940-1947), and the two tones of red the interpretation of the 1947-195? scheme (with fixed headlights).
